The United Canine Association recognized and began recording registration for the Siberian Husky in 2002.


Breed Characteristics: A native people from the Russian Arctic needed a compact smaller sized working, herding and sledding dog to assist in herding reindeer and the of hauling small loads of cargo over long distances. 

Those needs led to the development of the Siberian Husky, approximately 3,000 years ago.

The dogs, brought by the Indians, eventually made their way across the Bering Straits to Alaska, and then to Canada and the United States.

As a result of their use and close proximity to people, Siberian Huskies are known for their speed, endurance and good temperament.

The Siberian Husky is an average-sized breed, but it has a well-built body. 

Its chest is deep.  The neck angles to the level and muscular back.  This breed's head is in proportion to its medium build. 

Theirs is a muzzle average in length with a definite stop.  The muzzle is not too wide and narrows toward the nose. 

The breed's coat consists of two layers.  The bottom layer is thick and tends to be softer than the top layer.    
Its tail is just below the back and curls up over the back. 

It stands on front legs that are straight and wide.  The back legs are also wide and muscular.
Country of Origin: The Siberian Husky's are native to Siberia, Russia  and then introduced to America around the 1900's where it was used for sled racing.

Original Purpose: Sled Dog and guardian.

Today's Uses:
Companion, working dog and guardian.

Siberian Huskies average 45 - 65 pounds.

Siberian Huskies are 20 - 23 inches tall at the shoulders.

 The coat of the Siberian Husky is thick and pelt like with a dense undercoat.

 Any color is acceptable.  Grays, blacks, reds and pied is common in the Siberian Husky, usually with lighter shading on the head and under body.

Siberian Huskies are dependable, energetic, and friendly.  Siberian Huskies are energetic, outgoing pets that generally like being around people.

The Siberian Husky is an active and intelligent breed that can be strong willed at times.

With Children:
 Siberian Huskies do well with children but as with all dogs should be properly socialized and supervised.

With Pets:
Siberian Huskies enjoy other dogs, and may do better if there is more than one Husky.  Siberian Huskies typically do not get along well with cats.

Training a Siberian Husky can be challenging.  Many Siberian Huskies can very in dependant.  Patience and reputation is needed when training a Siberian Husky.

Activity Level:
This breeds needs lots of exercise every day. they are a very active working breed and will literally walk all day. Care has to be taken when letting this dog free run, as recall is not easy to teach this breed, especially when they are off lead.    

Life Expectancy:
 Can be expected to be 12 to 14 years.
