The United Canine Association recognized and began recording registration for the French Bulldog in 2002.
                                        

  

Breed Characteristics:  The French Bulldog is a brawny little Bulldog with large, erect, bat ears, a flat muzzle with a pug like nose.

The head of the French Bulldog is square and somewhat flat in shape, the forehead of the French Bulldog is round.


The French Bulldog is pear-
shaped, with the shoulder width being wider than the rear end.

The prominent eyes of the French Bulldog are round in shape and are dark in color.

The breed's bite is undershot.

The French Bulldog's tails is short and either straight or cork-screw.


Country of Origin: 
The French Bulldog originated in France or possibly Spain.

 

Original Purpose: 
The French Bulldog was developed as a show and companion dog.


Today's Uses: 
Today the French Bulldog is still an outstanding conformation show dog and a family companion dog.


Weight:
  The French Bulldog is approximately 10 - 12 inches tall at the shoulders. 


Height: 
French Bulldogs average 20 - 27 pounds.


Coat:
  The French Bulldog's coat is short, smooth and soft in texture.


Color:
 The French Bulldog comes in a variety of colors such as various brindles, pied, blue liver, or fawn, all with white markings are accepted. 


Temperament: 
French Bulldogs are loving, playful, and spirited. 

The French Bulldog can be child like in temperament.  French Bulldogs thrive on attention and care should be used not to spoil the breed. 

The French Bulldog is intelligent, alert and inquisitive.   Most French Bulldogs become very obedient, friendly and willing to please their owners, but the breed as been known to be stubborn at times.


With Children: 
French Bulldogs do well with children.  French Bulldogs are playful and clownish in behavior.


Other Pet Compatibility:  French Bulldogs do well with other pets but should be proper socialized as a puppy. 


Trainability:  Patience, consistent and firm training is required with the French Bulldog.  Training should never be too harsh.


Activity Level: 
French Bulldogs require minimum exercise, the breed is content with short walks and a game of fetch.  


Life Expectancy:
  French Bulldogs live an average of 10 - 13 years.
